Black Lung Clinics Program
“We’re Here For Your Good Health”
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you. The Black Lung Clinics Program is a state-funded project aimed at assisting
Coalminers and their families with Coal Workers’ Pneumoconiosis (BLACK LUNG), Silicosis (ROCK DUST) and related areas of
Occupational Health.  Job related dust diseases are still a major problem.  These diseases affect your physical condition and your
ability to make a living for your family.
Coal Worker Pneumoconiosis (BLACK LUNG)

A disease which results from the inhalation
and deposition of coal mine dust in the
lungs and the reaction of lung tissue to its
presence.

A chronic dust disease of the lung and
related disease conditions, including
respiratory and pulmonary impairments,
arising out of coal mine employment.
Silicosis (ROCK DUST)

Silicosis occurs if a person works where
the concentration of particles is high.
Over a very long period of time, the
defense system may fail and dust-laden
macrophages may collect in the lungs,
therefore causing chronic restrictive lung
disease.

A disease of the lungs caused by
continued inhalation of the dust of
siliceous minerals and characterized by
progressive fibrosis and a chronic
shortness of breath
Impairment:  An abnormal condition which persists and will not
improve after appropriate treatment.
Disability:  The effect of impairment on a person’s life and ability to
do a particular job.  Treatment should not be delayed.
Treatment:  Should not be delayed.  Our Staff will review your case
and impairment level prior to filling a claim.
